|| 摘要

Soil respiration, i.e. emission of CO2 from the soil into the atmosphere, is a critical component of the global carbon cycle. This dynamic process is primarily controlled by microbial activity in the soil, and is thus sensitive to anything affecting soil microbes. Recent studies have shown that changes in soil fauna communities, such as the invasion of exotic earthworms, may increase this flux. However, our knowledge on how the mechanisms play out is insufficient for understanding the ecological consequences. In this talk, I will briefly introduce the diversity of soil invertebrate fauna and their importance in the soil ecosystem, and present a case study on earthworm invasion to highlight the challenges and knowledge gaps.
